PURPOSE

The purpose of the Black Student and Family Task Force is to review Pasadena Unified School District’s strategic plan, pillars, and Resolution 2566 regarding Black students and propose a comprehensive implementation plan to the Superintendent and board members of Pasadena Unified School District to serve Black students and families in the Pasadena Unified School District.

MISSION

The Black Student and Family Task Force will build upon existing school district policies and documents in consultation with the Superintendent, school district representatives and board members. Based on their engagement and a review of relevant documents the Task Force will create and recommend an implementation plan to service Black students and families.

VISION

Empowering the Black Student and Family Task Force and its extended communities, both individually and collectively, to build equity, access, and opportunity for Black students and families will ensure Pasadena Unified School District’s strategic focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion to be realized.

TERM

The term of the Black Student and Family Task Force will be from August 2023 through May 2024. Implementation Plan presentation to Board in February 2024. March 2024 – May 2024 implementation phase of plan in PUSD.

Goal #1

Understanding the needs of Black students, Black families, the Black community, and Black PUSD certificated, classified, and support personnel.

Creating an implementation plan blending the needs of the Black community with
district strategic goals, district policy, historical inequities, learning loss, and the lived experiences of Black students and families in PUSD.

Creating Black Student Success as a goal in the Pasadena Unified School District’s 2024
Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).

Goal #4

Policy recommendation supporting the recruitment, development, retention of Black administrators, teachers, and support staff in PUSD.

Goal #5

The creation of a district office/ staffed positions to support the implementation plan and ongoing efforts in serving Black students and families in PUSD.
